Having seen the makey makey in action on Monday, being able to play music through a banana, really brought back my interest in technology. Being able to use almost anything as your keyboard, arrow keys, and even your mouse is unbelievable. This was a great creative experience, especially when we got into groups on Wednesday and were allowed to do whatever we want with the equipment. My group had a number of ideas:Super Mario, D.D.R, playing Mary had a little lamb, and connecting the makey makey to microsoft word! The best part about makey makey is that it allows for supposedly individual tasks to suddenly become open to 4+ people. For example, when we played mario or D.D.R which is a one player game we got to split up the keys to every member of the group and everyone took part in playing the game. I think makey makey is a great invention to help bring back the physical interactions we once had before texting, facebook, twitter, and other social networks.
I do however believe that the makey makey with wires sets too many limits as to what we can do with it. If we got to try the makey makey in its wireless stage i’m sure an infinite set of ideas would have been put forth by my group as well as every other group. For starters, it would be possible that when we touch the doorknob of our house all the lights turn on. Everything would be a little more complicated but it would be so much more interesting. I am very thankful for the opportunity to not only be introduced to the makey makey but being able to work with it as well.
