Just See It

I think it’s one thing to actually hear about something and another thing to see something. Often when you read something, whether it be a poem, blog-post, or book, you can visualize things more clearly when you’re familiar with what’s being talked about. For example, in the poems about the Brooklyn Bridge, the only reason why I felt somewhat of a connection to them, is because of one visit I made to the actual bridge in December. It’s really hard to get a sense of things and really imagine the magnitude and beauty of something like a work of architecture, when you haven’t even seen it before.

Visiting the Brooklyn Bridge was something spur of the moment at that time. What’s funny is that the only reason why I went at all was to show my tourist buddies from California around. Had they not been with me, I still probably wouldn’t have seen the bridge. It’s crazy to think how much I haven’t seen, despite being not so far away.

Anyways…the bridge was beautiful, empty. It was that time of day when it wasn’t quite evening, yet the manhattan skyline was completely lit. I was amazed by the architecture and the way everyone’s eyes were glittery from admiration. It just made me wonder what it would look like during sunrise or sunset or even during a really bright day. Too bad, that I didn’t have my camera with me, because I probably would have gone crazy, maybe more so than my tourist friends. Even though I felt touristy, I was kind of sad that I never came there before. It was nice to see Manhattan from a different point of view. And I’m still kind of sad that I haven’t gone back there since.

Here are some photos I did manage to get via phone at the time:
