Today, I went to the David Rattray reading at St. Marks Church. To be honest, it wasn’t something that I was looking forward to. So we arrived and sat down. The reading started and readers began. Somehow, I didn’t get bored or play on my phone. The atmosphere seemed to inspire enthusiasm. The readers were not boring, instead they were very insightful. The poems and essays that they read were very different and unique, and some were a little disturbing. Nonetheless, I listened. They were very motivating and inspired me. Next to them, my essays seemed terrible. I felt like I needed to write better, and listening to them made me feel like I could.
We even took a little tour afterwards. We went to the balcony, and the stain glass windows I saw were beautiful. They were colorful and of all different pictures. We also took a look at the graves and discovered some well known people. It felt great to be able to see this and be a part of magnificent history for at least one day. I also realized how New York is really an amazing place. You discover something new everyday and find that you yourself are creating history.
