Writing. When I used to think of writing I would groan and moan at the thought of writing long, boring papers. That was true throughout my entire educational career from middle school up until college. I think others would agree that this class is beneficial in more ways than we may even realize. In this class I’m able to apply myself in writing in ways that I never thought imaginable.
For the first time, I find myself in a class where I can express myself through writing and I am enjoying it. I am not limited to writing responses to “boring” books like Moby Dick or the Scarlett Letter. But, I can write about issues that are relevant to me and where I am. Writing about New York City, there are so many “avenues” you can take en route to writing the ideal paper.
I look forward to each assignment as if it were an adventure. An adventure in which you travel deep into the far away land known as your mind and extract the ideas and information you wish to implement in your writing. I find this writing process to be a bit difficult at times but once you finish your final A+ paper you are able to look at it and be proud of yourself.
In this short time, I have found that my writing has evolved immensely. I love how professor pushes us to be perfect in the art of writing as that is equally how I push myself in my other classes. I love how we are able to connect different genres of writings in so many ways. It forces you to “read between the lines” and think more deeply.
In closing, I think we would all have a much better approach to writing if we get ourselves excited about it. I, for one, tend to write about personal topics and things that are important to me. Because I believe that you are easily able to write your best when you are excited or passionate about something.
