The Beauty in Everything

James Schuyler’s “February” was a particularly interesting read. I absolutely loved the poem. The way he describes everyday things is so beautiful and it makes one look at things in a more vivid color. Sometimes when I’m outside, I stop and clear my mind, and just feel nature. I just look at the everyday beauty that we always dismiss, such as the bright blue skies, the white fluffy puffs in those skies, and the marvelous chirping of the birds. A few weeks ago, while I was waiting to catch my 9:15 PM bus home at Port Authority, I just stopped for a few minutes to stare at a pigeon that was walking around. I just thought of how beautiful it was and how cute it looked while it walked on its little feet.

Schuyler explores this type of beauty in his poem. He describes the way the sun tints the blue sky, and the way the flowers looked. He “can’t get over how it all works together.” You and I both, Schuyler. Why do I find life so beautiful? How does this life work? How do nature and man-made things manage to cooperate? He’s questioning everything around him and detailing all the beauty of these things that he sees every day. In the end he says, “It’s a day like any other.” It’s a beautiful day like any other. Nature and man’s creations are working together to create New York City.
