Digital Essay

The digital component of this essay will be very interesting because I am having a hard time to visualizing what it is that I may want to do. I have been leaning towards the choice of doing a small video of some sort because last semester I did a 3D object, which was a great experience, but now I want to do something different. My essay will be focusing around the poem “Black Art” by Amiri Baraka, which is rich with information to interpret and run with. I am going to focus how Baraka’s opinion, even if it was extremist, was necessary for the movement that he started and enforced. I want to focus my project on even though he blocked himself within the confines of only his mind and the mind of Black Supremacists, he was able to influence people to join him through writing, literature, and the arts to begin a Black Arts Movement.

I have been thinking of putting my opinion on Baraka and his poem into a visual metaphor in my video. I want to somehow represent my thinking in a quick video thatĀ encompassesĀ the whole idea. Something that I have been pondering is representing his mind in a closed area because he was a very stubborn and a person with only one view, without wanting to see the other side. Then slowly but surely has the video progressed, more and more people would get into the area as the poem (being read in the background) progressed, similar to how the Black Arts Movement progressed with Baraka’s works and the works of those many others in the movement. This is only an idea and I still want to expand upon that idea or add onto it or maybe come up with something better. I’m not sure yet, but this is where I am now.
