I’ve chosen to write my paper on Amiri Baraka’s Preface to a “Twenty Volume Suicide Note” because when I first read it, it captivated me in a way that I can barely describe in words. (But I’m going to have to try my best to describe such feelings later on when I write my paper) However, I can use images, film, and art in order to portray the feeling I felt as a response to reading this poem.
I’m very amazed at how good writing can stir emotions in readers, just like how seeing a film can make you laugh, cry, and feel. I’m currently thinking of making a stop motion animation and compiling clips and images of film or art that I find to be relevant to my paper. I might even include some clips of Baraka himself if I can find any. If anyone has ever seen the oscar nominated film Tree of Life, I want to emulate that sort of media art–kind of like an abstract collage of images and clips that come together to form a thesis/plot/storyline.
