The piece I am writing about is James Baldwin’s “THE FIRE NEXT TIME”, in this piece Baldwin is telling us about all mistreatment african americans are receiving during this time period. James Baldwin also writes about how Harlem has not progressed since the Harlem renaissance and he is mad about this. I choose this piece because I really enjoy the emotion James Baldwin uses when writing it, as well as I think me being white american can show that writings like “THE FIRE NEXT TIME”, has had a major impact on the transition from society back then to today and his writing was influential in the fight for racial equality.
For the digital project I had the idea that I would shoot people of different racial and social backgrounds in black and white to show there is no discrimination in todays society as well as have this piece “THE FIRE NEXT TIME” play in the background, because you dont really capture the emotion that Baldwin uses in his writing till you here him read the piece out loud.
