Charles Baudelaire’s “Be Drunk”

Charles Baudelaire’s “Be Drunk” is a vitalizing and enriching poem that I think deserves an equally vibrant and impulsive digital essay.

I would like to start this video with images of new life. This can be in the sense of a baby, sunlight, flowers blooming, embarking on a journey which can be represented by a road trip or a plane taking off to a new country.  Also, I would simply like to show examples of what Baudelaire may mean when he says, “be drunk”. For example, I can show a couple in love, I can show someone’s love for the arts, someone’s love for literature or someone’s love for nature.

I also think there may be negative things that a person may become intoxicated with such as too much alcohol, drugs and fighting which may lead to unhappiness but I think this is important to show this because it is an experience. It is something we can learn from. It is what creates wisdom.

I also have the image in my mind of old people who talk about their lives with the fondest of memories; people who feel as though they have done and seen all that they want and need to. I would like to show images of these people and basically end with a theme of “no regrets”.
