My digital is essay stresses the importance of understanding. In contrast to Amiri Baraka, I believe that to truly influence, convince or persuade someone there needs to be a form of understanding. Baraka’s writing is efficient in conveying his message and prompt the masses to fight for a similar cause. With my digital essay I created confusion and misinterpretation with a set of images that I have collected through my countless hours of internet surfing. These images are easily misinterpreted if one does not understand the context. I want the viewer to feel weak from not understanding, to feel frustrated by confusion. I divided by project in two sections the first being the set of images without context and the second I will show the images again but this time I will give a brief summary of what is going on in the photo. My goal is to stress the importance of a shared form of understanding. To understand the essence for some of these foreign practices we all weird but serve a deeper purpose. WE merely do not understand the reason for action does not mean we should intervene. Through understanding we can create a connection. Through literacy we can create the bridge over the language barrier. Before we can even try to exert power we must first understand our audience. To tap into their hearts.
