Digital Essay Alvin Kumaga

Wow it’s finally here: the end of the spring term. This term flew by and what a perfect way to culminate the experience than creating the digital essay. I had a great time finding and experimenting with different ways to portray Eileen Myles’ “New York” (1981) in visual form. I hit a few bumps, made a lot of adjustments and my final presentation is not what I had originally envisioned but I deemed it the best way of presenting the ideas I extracted from Eileen Myles’ poem.
She, as I learned, was unsure of her identity as it pertains to gender. She is a lesbian and proud of who she is. In her writing, she asks the reader to “.” She finds herself defending all types of minority groups, which include gays, lesbians, and transgenders, and any other cultural or societal group that is scrutinized and/or jusdged in any type of way.
So this is my presentation of the ideas taken from Eileen Myles’ New York (1981)…
