I had the pleasure of visiting the Museum of Modern Art for the first time today. To say that I was astounded and invigorated is a major understatement. As I grow older, I realize that I am really interested in just about everything.
First of all just walking there, I got off at the 59th Street Lexington Station, I saw a host of sights that was astounding to me. I am a big architecture geek so being that it was my first time there, 53rd Street was my preview of heaven. I fell in love with the Rolex Building, the different boutiques, the Atrium and so many others. I was using my Google maps and all of those building, to me, could have passed for the MoMA building.
I was so happy that I was a CUNY student so I didn’t have to pay the 14 dollar fee. The museum itself was amazing inside and out. After getting my free ticket and checking in my bookbag I was set for my adventure, this was the first time I had stepped foot in a museum in many years. I walked up the stairs and entered the first place that caught my attention: the Media Gallery. Abstract. So many abstract paintings and works, I wish I could have captured more. The works that I were most perplexed were those of Charline von Heyl, Cory Arcangel, and Wade Guyton. Wade Guyton printed an untitled work that was a digital black print on plywood. It was abstract an confusing for me to understand how this was considered art but when I looked closer I was able to see small circles. Maybe that’s why it is considered art?
The rest weren’t as abstract but just as beautiful. The moral of this story is I will be taking part in a lot more activities and visiting more museums and other such venues. As we learned this semester this city has so much to offer so it’s time for me to go out and explore it!
