I have been thinking about this assignment all day today and I have the perfect video planned for Amiri Baraka’s poem “preface to a twenty volume suicide note.” I envision a darkened entry scene staring up at the blank sky, with the night and stars becoming a powerful portion of the video. It will then follow suite with the rest of the poem and have appropriate music to followthrough with what I believe will leave the most powerful emotional response. A large portion of Baraka’s style is to portray his emotion and heart into what he is writing, by doing the same thing with a video it will evoke Baraka’s style as well as the meaning which he is trying to convey. There will be no words, because the imagery will be suggestive and evocative enough to portray the deeper message. The ending will be important because of the purity of a two year old girl praying (it works out perfectly because I have a 3 year old sister).
I have a good sense of what I want to do and what I want to accomplish, fortunately making videos is nothing new to me so hopefully it will come out the way I want.
