I’m pretty much finished with my digital essay but I’m not really satisfied with it. I wanted to interpret “Barbie Doll” using the words and the images that Marge Piercy put into it but I think I bit off more than I could chew. Photoshop is usually used to make small animations through .gifs and using it to make animations more than a couple of seconds long is tedious. After having the program crash on me multiple times and losing my work, I stuck to simple colors and used less frames. Because I had to use less frames, the movement isn’t as smooth as I wanted it to be. Last night I had a nightmare where I had more than 100 frames in one .psd and I kept adding more and then Photoshop crashed and all 100+ frames went down the drain… So instead I’ve been rendering my .psds every 50 or so frames and piecing them together on iMovie. I’m not sure if you can understand the video without reading the poem but I’ll try to make it easier.
