That’s a wrap! I am so relieved about finishing this digital essay and finally being able to publish it. I had quite the experience with creating this mini film because with the complete “re-seeing” of my paper, the digital component had a same make over. I initially wanted my essay to show how childhood is disappearing and how the line between child and adult was becoming blurred. With revision and the personal conference, my paper turned completely around with a new argument that was much stronger and effective. My new argument is about how “Childhood” deviates from the elements of the slam and why this has to occur. In one of my sources, there was an essay about the death of Miguel Pinero, co-founder of the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe in the the Lower East Side. The essay by Miguel Algarin discussed the scattering of his ashes and there was an emphasis on the area From Houston to 14th Street / From Second Ave to the Mighty D. With slam having so much history in the Lower East Side, I decided to walk that area to grasp the essence of this neighborhood. I also switch between images of the Lower East Side and elements of the slam to highlight the fact that my poem pulls away from those key factors.
At first I felt so nervous about how I would put everything together but in the end it was a pretty cool experience. To finally see the finished product of something I had never done was really cool as well. I feel like taking another perspective on your argument really allows you to reflect and take a deeper look at your work overall. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s work! Digital Essay
