The New York City Subway…! It’s a Hell of a Show!!

When I started brainstorming for this blog, my mind kept going back to Jane Jacobs’ words, “The ballet of a good city sidewalk never repeats itself from place to place, and in any one place is always replete with new improvisations” from ‘The Death and Life of Great American Cities’. I would flashback to moments and scenes taking place in Manhattan’s streets that made laugh, but then I realized that most of the times I found myself thinking that I belong to the city of the ‘kookoo world’ I was actually in the subway. Oh how I wish I had taken a picture or a video of every single odd, crazy, magical thing I’ve seen in that subway… Weather it was those three crazy young boys dancing in the subway, hanging upside down from the ceiling while you can tell that everybody is thinking ‘I really hope I don’t get kicked in the face today’…

I thought I could try a Free Write/Travel Blog which is basically about all the uniquely insane things all of as see happen in the NYC subway. I was commuting from Queens for not even two months and I have to admit that my subway ride to Manhattan was very entertaining…I can’t help but imagine what people who have been taking the subway for years and even decades have seen…

Weather it is the fact that the subway can get very warm or that New Yorkers just have a sense of limitless freedom…they surely like to show some skin…

There are always people who use their talent to either earn some money or to show off what they got….

There are some cases that you don’t even know what’s going on…

The New York City Subway, I am confident so say, is something all New Yorkers can relate to. It can get uncomfortable at times but no one can argue that they weren’t entertained at least once by a bizarre incident. The pictures above show only a few of those unexpected moments. In fact, the photos of people with no pants on is a part of an event called ‘No Pants Subway Ride’, as many of you may know, which takes place annually. This year it took place on the 13th of January and there is an article in Huff Post New York Around Town that gives out the details:

Remember when I said that I wish I had video recorder every crazy person or even that happened in the subway? Well, I found a website that shows video clips of ‘The most bizarre subways incidents caught on camera’. Here’s the link:

What’s for sure is that these wild events are only a representation of the diverse, eccentric, extraordinary, strange people of New York. I recently joined a Facebook page called ‘Humans of New York’ that constantly posts pictures of all kinds of people in New York and every time a picture is posted I discover another aspect of the people in this city; they also have a website. http://www.humansofnewyork.com .
