Assignment #2

Act 5 was interesting to read as far as the power the Women, Portia and Nerissa, held against their husbands as they broke their vows against wearing their rings. Although Portia purposefully put herself in the position to receive Bassanio’s ring in the court of law as she saved the case and Antonios life, she flipped the coin to address Bessanio’s unfaithfulness in the relationship. As she continues to patronize him about her equivalent as far as sharing her bed with another man, I found that to be a bit toxic. Whether it is the most lightest form of toxicity, pettiness, or even genuine care, Bessanio will have to be more cautious, but what will he make of her after this? Since the man is out of her league, at least by a couple brackets, he will always have to work under her essentially. However, I still have faith in Portia’s good faith and her keeping this relationship well-balanced and pure as it was before he chose the right casket.
