Lesson on islam shuts down virginia school district

In this article, Richard Perez-Pena talks about how a high school teacher in a world geography class was criticized for asking students to copy an Islamic passage. Many parents, after discovering this, accused the teacher of trying to convert their children to Islam. Complaints have gone so far as to involve the school district and the Sheriff of the county. Authority is shown in this article by the parents and the school district. Though the parents do not have a lot of power and authority, they have a lot of influence; they organized protests/riots, they threatened to riot at schools, and they threatened the administration. Furthermore, there is also authoritarianism because the parents and some people in powerful positions in the school district are trying to oppress the teaching of an Islamic passage, and anything associated with Islam because the parents think the teacher was trying to convert their children.
