Assignment #3

A recent power play that I have witness is when I attended a concert. At concerts people go to watch and listen to their favorite artists and have fun. And while the artists can interact with the crowd, there is a distinct difference between the performer and the audience. The singer or band is performing on a stage that is set higher above the rest. Yes, this allows everyone to see him/her but, it sets the artist on a pedestal, literally and figuratively. There is also a barricade a few feet from the stage, to keep the concert goers a certain distance away from the stage. And while the artists is just another person who wants to connect with their fans, they are able to command, sway, and hold their attention through the power of their music.

I think that is very good example a power play. We normally don’t see it that way, but the performer has an enormous amount of power over the audience and they exercise it always. I have seen some instances where at a concert the performer has prevented riots and disturbances that would have other wise resulted into a bad situation. I think the part that we usually pay more attention to is the entertainment aspect not how the performer is commanding your attention, mainly because it is willfully given to them because of an emotional connection they have with their supporters.

I strongly agree with you but also the artist is doing this for security sack his well being so in a sense he need to be protected not all concert goers specifically love the artist in a case which happens mostly often people pretend to go to concert for the music but vice versa they’re there for hate, jealousy and greed or any specific reasoning. You could define the artist through his lyrics it could be a role of power play or any specific reasoning. Music may feel good to the soul or cause harm to others emotionally but it brings no pain, the artist needs to secure its security so he’s giving the platform to express his art, emotions, feelings and even his/her life experience. Fans, customers, listeners may see eye to eye with the artists because they might relate to his/her story. I see music as a recitation of history…they’re historians expressing their words through music so digest it in a way you see fit it’s just food for thought…
