These are very thought provoking and interesting thesis statements. I completely agree with the second thesis statement, but it can be more specific. In which aspect do the people prioritize themselves before others. In terms of greed? In terms of personal survival? I am curious to see the American exploitation of animals because I have not experienced that personally.
The second thesis grabs my attention more. The words exploitation, cruelty, and engrained are very provoking. Makes me what to read more on what i presume will be an essay about humans asserting their authority over animals.
Both topics are very interesting because it deals with the American society. For the first thesis statement, there are many different types of supporting facts you can use which is great. I feel that the second thesis statement is a bit broad. You can maybe be more specific when writing it. Even though I can relate to both of these theses, I wonder what examples would you use for the second one. I think the second one is a little more difficult to write about. However I still think it wouldn’t be hard.

Yes, as many have pointed out, this is a great topic, but to write an effective essay, you need to narrow this. In other words, look at an aspect of animal cruelty (private, recreation, food industry, etc.) and then when you narrowed the aspect, try to narrow it again to something even more specific (race horses, slaughterhouses, etc.).
