Yancey,
Both of your topics are quite interesting, and both could be fun to explore. Both of these statements, however, are somewhat broad. If you choose the first, look at a specific employer/employee relationship; otherwise, it will be a theoretical essay, and not very specific. Also, for this one, you may need to use other secondary sources (other than the Russell). If you choose the second, again, choose a specific school/teacher/student, because, as in your first option, you want this essay to be convincing (and to be convincing, you need to be very specific).
Yancey,
For the first thesis statement you can narrow your topic down. Perhaps, you can be more specific as to the cause and effect relationship between the employee and customer. How customer satisfaction is important and influential to the success of the employee. You should be specific on how customers can control employee’s behavior around them because the ultimate consequence of displeasing the customer is getting fired. The second thesis statement can definitely be more specific. How are they dependent on each other? There are many factors to it. For example, grades, or the access of information. How does the relationship depict power play between the teacher and the student?
