Thesis #2: The relationship of the parent to child shows the ability of the parent to imprint and shape the child’s beliefs and ideals.

Both of these topics are interesting, and both could be quite nice explorations. Both, though, need to be more specific. In the first, think of a particular area (advertising, entertainment, etc.) and then how, specifically, the celebrity influences a specific demographic. If you can use how you yourself have been influenced (or a friend) this would eliminate the need for more secondary sources. If you choose the second, make sure you focus on a specific relationship, and a specific area of influence; otherwise, your essay could be too general.
