Russell 4 Conflict of Technique and Human Nature

“Owing to the large size of the organisation the group who collectively make a car have no unity and no sense of solidarity as between management and employees”

Russell makes a lot of different points and claims across his lectures, as with this one, however one thing that caught my eye is the aforementioned quote/the point that he makes. What I believe Russell is talking about is the sheer disconnect between a worker in a car plant and the owner of that plant. The worker’s only real interest is making a paycheck, sure he might take some pride in making good cars, but the truth is (for the most part) a worker just cares about the check. On the other hand the owner cares nothing about the workers, their paychecks or their lives, they just care that a quality car gets made. Such is the constant societal disconnects that modern technique such as mass production/currency has created. Russell goes further in depth to explain what role currency plays as well, which in a nutshell is that it gives an arbitrary value to everything.
