In creating this experiment, Stanley Milgram wanted to test out the affects of ruthless authority and how far individuals will go to follow orders. In the situation provided individuals who were given the role of the “teacher” follow the orders of the experimenter because they supposed the experimenter has higher authority than them. What resulted from this is that some “teachers” felt it was an “highly stressful experience” (6:40). When asked by the Professor if Milgram’s study would warrant the same results today, a student answered, yes because people will follow anything blindly to “appease authority figures”(9:33). By the end of this experiment, it was shown that even if people have certain doubts about the task they are given, they will still blindly follow if they believe someone of higher authority will take the responsibility. If there is no responsibility on an individual, than they will have no care on the repercussions.
