“You wouldn’t ask people what they would do in the hypothetical you put them in the hypothetical”
“One of the things that’s a prerequisite for caring our acts that are evil is to shed responsibility and hand it over to the person in charge”
What I witnessed from watching the experiment was that people blindly follow authority even if it causes harm to other people. Milgram uses this experiment to explain many of the horrible atrocities that take place. I think the first quote shows why Milgram decided to do such an experiment rather than just asking people because this way the results are much more accurate and shocking. The second one on the other hand, shows why people do cruel things to others when authority figures ask them to. It shows just what causes people to obey what their authority figures tell them to do even if what they are doing is something terrible such as the holocaust and other genocides that have occurred in the world. Overall the experiment was a great example of how authority can be used to as a rationale to do terrible things
