Thesis: The legalization of marijuana in the United States will have an overwhelmingly positive effect on the social and economic condition of our country.
In my essay I’m going to be analyzing an article/opinion piece that addresses many of the positive as well as the negative effects that legalizing marijuana will have. I plan on focusing on how the author uses specific examples of successful instances of legalization to further enhance his argument and convince his target demographic. I will also be addressing how he uses comparisons of similar illicit substances like alcohol to further prove his point that marijuana should be legalized.

This is, of course, still a very compelling issue, but you need to look, again, at the assignment sheet for Essay #2, as you are not to argue an issue here (as in Essay #1 or as in a research essay) but your thesis needs to concern itself with the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of a writer in reaching a specific demographic (audience) in on speech, essay, or opinion article.
