My initial intention for writing this paper was to cover a block with a reputation for having a major influence on the New York punk scene of previous decades. What I discovered through my research was that St. Mark’s has a rich history dating back to the early years of the grid formation in lower Manhattan, which is peppered with appearances by many of history’s significant characters.
