The implementation of the natural world into art is an expansion of reality and community. With constant changes in the climate, humans are often trying to navigate ways to mitigate harm to the environment. An attempt at art in nature is the beginning of a bond between human touch and ecological surroundings, which has often been detached. Lois Weinberger allows us to recognize that whatever humans have built, nature was there first. His art is to encourage nature to reclaim its space through botany. He uses resilient plants that will grow in a way that is fast and free, as a way to coexist with more industrial components to areas in Germany. Weinberger insinuates that we do not have to destroy to clear space for new construction, rather we can find ways to build side by side. Nature perseveres, so we mustn’t fight it.

“I believe we have a profound fundamental need for areas of the earth where we stand without our mechanisms that make us immediate masters over our environment.” –Howard Zahniser
