Good news!
In a landmark case brought by Friends of the Earth, It has been reported that the Royal Dutch Shell company must cut its global carbon emissions bay 45% by the end of 2030. The case was brought to the Dutch court, to which Judge Larissa Alvin said Shell “must “at once” reduce its CO2 output.” According to theguardian.com, Shell is responsible for about 1% of global emissions per year. YIKES.
Judge Alvin ruled that Shell violated the Dutch law of convention on human rights by causing a danger to others when alternative measures could be taken.
This is huge news. It is a turning point on big oil (one of the biggest polluting industries) as it marks the first time that a large corporation must comply with the Paris climate agreement. This may be the case needed in order for other developed nations to follow suit.

I appreciate that this is more positive than the news around climate change we usually read is. I love that companies are starting to be held accountable, I believe that is the key to higher impact solutions towards slowing the issues we currently face.
