When i watched short film about “Hamilton”, i felt like fresh as i watched in the Heights because it used a rap for song. I watched many musicals so far but here is a different thing. That is traditional or normal musical uses typically a “Musical Song” that has narrative, however, the Hamilton has a new type song that does not use at all before like rap even the background and costume of the Hamilton is about old. In this point, a question pop in my mind that yes, I like this kind of music in the musical, but can it be a mainstream of Broadway? And, for the contemporary art, it is getting become a hard to understand since they broke the boarder line between arts. In terms of mine, classical art is easy to understand and hard to do but the contemporary art is hard to understand but easy to do. Do you think that the contemporary art-even include theater, close enough to audience to make them entertainment or for fun? The classical art is a intuitive work , on the other sidethe contemporary art is a abstract work.

Scavenger Hunt
Tuesday, i had a great and fun activity that were scavenger hunt for theater history. I were grouped a team with other class mates then we left class room to find our treasure. When I got the list which is full of short questions, I little surprised but we searched it via google then solved. We needed to go to many places. So, we decided to split up two groups and then one group went to time square and the other group went to Astor place. I was in a group who went to Astor place. The first place of which I and my team member visit was the Players club. I astonished because this club is really close to our school. It is just a few blocks away. Even I used to walk around there. The Players club is a social club founded in New York City by the noted 19th-century Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth and Mark Twain. They might discuss about stories, plays, and thought a lot. Mark Twain’s place! What an amazing! When I was in a young boy, I read Mark Twain’s work and used to dream about adventure even I grew up outside of the U.S. The irony thing is, even Mark Twain is my one of the here, more even it is really near of the Baruch College, I never figure out his place until Tuesday. It happened other places, too. Next destination was Astor place. We have been finding the site of a theater riot and a theater “Walk of fame”. Whenever we got off subway, we tried to find the site of a theater riot place at first. We turned on the google map then was looking at it. We just stand near station, then the google map pointed out a building right behind of us. Moreover, the first floor of the building is a huge Starbucks coffee chain even I stepped by many times to buy a cup of coffee! It was continuous surprising. Then we moved to find walk of fame. At first, I thought it is a name of theater but it is not. It was star plate of fame on the street. This boardwalk is also I passed by so many time but never know. All these places are that I was passed and knew but I didn’t know what it is. This activity is literally scavenger hunt. The treasures are scatted out all around us. We just didn’t know that. I learned and knew the historic story of the building and place that I didn’t care about it.
Blog Post: Globalization
Nowadays, we can see the same show or plays all around the world. It just use different language and actors. My questions is how they are keeping same quality even they have different background culture, language and actors?
Critical Question: A Doll’s House
Ibsen’s play contains kind of factor of feminism and modernism. For instance, when Nora realizes how her husband treats her then she leaves “A Doll’s House” by her own decision. This is a thing that cannot be accepted woman gets away from the man’s bosom at that time period. Ibsen shows us the distinguishable things from former form of the play or zeitgeist.
Blog Response
A doll’s house has difference with classical play. There is a woman character in the play and Ibsen’s intent or not a doll’s house covers a kind of feminism as a first time.
Critical Question #5
Is there any relationship with the price for the show to spread entertainment like circus? I guess before that time period, the conventional theatre would be little expensive to see.
Critical Question: Theatre and the Nation
We have been through how the nationalism and arts are linked by many examples. Ecpecially during war, arts are influenced the nationalism. During WW2 and the Cold War, there are lots of print, theatre, music, and movie that contains nationalism to inspire. But can you say their relationahip is only exist in during war?
Melodrama
The Melodrama looks like focus more event than developing the person’s character. It also looks like moral play like reward the good and punish the wicked. Why is it have this kind of structure? For vicarious pleasure?
MCNY Response
It was my first visit to MCNY. In fact that i expected long history about Yiddish’s play but there is modern history in NYC. One thing i interested was costume that was colorful and classic. I’m wondering it is a traditional costume for the Yiddish or only for the play.
NYPL Response
I never heard about that place even i go to Lincoln Center sometimes, never know. NYPL Billy Rose Theatre Division is well designed place for research. Also it is highly digitalized and technology. I guess there is lots of treasure.
