The Major moments within Othello

Othello finds Desdemona asleep in bed. This is the start to the final scene of the story

Muñoz Degraín, Antonio. Otelo e Desdémona. 1880. jpg file

This image shows the moment in the story where Othello has come into his home and found Desdemona asleep in bed. With his mind full of doubt and anger from Iago’s lies about Desdemona’s infidelity, Othello decides to kill her. It is only after she is dead that Othello discovers the truth behind Iago’s lies and as a self-punishment, Othello commits suicide. This image is connected to the play because it illustrates the major point in the story where Othello finally decides to act on the lies and deceit that Iago has filled in his head. Unwilling to listen to Desdemona’s pleas of innocence, Othello kills her so she can’t “betray” any more men.

This is a painting that is a representation of the relationship between Desdemona and Othello. The entire artwork is very chaotic with all the colors and lines and even Othello and Desdemona in the center of the artwork are drawn in a very chaotic manner. The very messy and out of control art style represents how chaotic things were for not only between Othello and Desdemona but also with everything going on around them. This connects to the play because first is the part that Othello and Desdemona were truly in love with each other despite racial and age differences. Desdemona was willing to defy her father all so she could be with Othello who defied how everyone else saw him because of his race. The chaotic style of the painting represents everything going on around the pair such as Iago’s treachery, the war in Cyprus, and the slowly growing jealousy and anger of Othello after hearing about Desdemona’s supposed infidelity. This painting essentially shows that even with how in love the two of them were with each other, the chaos of everything around them affects them and ultimately leads them both to their deaths.
