If you’re part of the LGBTQ community and live on Long Island, you know that the struggle is real. Finding an LGBTQ night at a decent bar is like finding a straight man at a Madonna concert (yeah it’s that hard), we have to venture out to different neighborhoods to find a place to hang out and grab a drink with our people. But what if I told you there’s a hidden gem on Long Island, that hosts the best LGBTQ night Long Island has to offer.

Your Mother’s House, is a bar and eatery right on the busy stretch of Jericho Turnpike and Nassau Blvd. in New Hyde Park. During the day this is the local spot to grab some lunch or dinner with your family and a drink with your coworkers during their weekly happy hours, this place caters to everyone. But on the first Friday of every month, YOMO’s hosts Long Island’s hottest LGBTQ dance party, “during the weekends we turn the back room into a dance floor, we have a DJ and drag queen performers that really turns the place around. It’s a pretty popular local spot to come have a drink and dance the night away with your friends. It was our clientele that actually suggested we have a LGBTQ night here, we like to cater to our customers and decided why not give it a shot,” said YOMO’s manager Pete Esposito.

YOMO’s set out a social media campaign to get the attention of all those frustrated Long Island gays (which are many), to promote their highly anticipated gay nights. “We’ve invested a lot of time and effort to make sure this night is everything the LGBTQ community in Long Island needs.” said YOMO’s owner Lucielle Arangano. “We are very happy with the outcome, Ive had people come up and thank us for having this space for the community, it feels like it was much waited for and we are happy with the success it’s been having,” she added.

For more than several years now, the Long Island gay scene has been lacking. In an area that was once home to a wide variety of popular clubs and bars that could pack them in any night of the week, a mix of nightclubs, one nighters and a couple of old standbys have remained, leaving many dissatisfied with the choices available to them. Your Mother’s House aims to fill that void. So next time you don’t feel like venturing out to the city, just go to Your Mother’s House !
