Journal 3

I  think that taking initiative in seeking help and resources from what Baruch has to offer is critical to succeed.  At Baruch there are so many different resources available at my disposal that knowing how to utilize it is a skill in of itself.  I personally use the library and its resources all the time when doing work and find it more helpful than any other library I‘ve used in the past. One of the features that I‘ve found useful is the ask a librarian feature.  Although I didn’t have to use most of the resources for the community service project, I did heavily rely on my classmates for support, as well as the library and the databses they have to offer. Additionally, I think that if I was soemone who just entered Baruch I would have no idea how to better use these resources to my advantage, and would find the project much harder and confusing.

Although I haven’t used these resources for any clubs, I  have for many different classes, and the resources have really come in hand.  Just an example is for one of my communications speeches I needed an academic peer reviewed source, and couldn’t find one until I searched on the Baruch Library’s database.

My community service has really been trending in the positive direction since the project.  My group chose an organization close to my home and that sparked me going to volunteer there even more than the required 8 hours and I  will probably contiue going even after I am required to by Baruch. I think that over the next three years this involvement will only grow and that by the time I leave Baruch I will be proud to call myself a community servant, and someone who has given back to the community at large, not just in Baruch.

  1. Your anticipation to volunteer at your chosen location is very inspiring. I hope that my experience volunteering this semester is just as fulfilling as your’s has been. I also agree that the library has been very helpful throughout this semester, I find myself spending a lot more time there than I predicted.

  2. I find it interesting that you say that in three years, you would become proud to call yourself a community servant. Are you saying that you would not call yourself a community servant right now because didn’t you mention previously that you already volunteered in this organization? What part of the community do you want to serve?

  3. Great writing, Teddy. I tend to find myself in the same situation as you, regarding the clubs and such. I am confident, though, that you’ll find your way and your calling. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors

  4. I admire your passion towards volunteering. I hope that after the three years and after you gain the self-made title of “community servant” you never cease to volunteer. I hope that goes for all of us, me included. I enjoy volunteering and acknowledge its importance but unfortunately not many people do it unless required by their school.
