Artist Statement for “Cymbalism”

The video intends to utilize visual abstraction and auditory ambience in order to create sensory disarray. I chose a cymbal as my object of focus because it is able to provide both a calm and composed sound, as well as a powerful and violent disruption. Displaying familiar sounds with an unfamiliar visual provides a sense of tangibility for the viewer. The juxtaposition of the cymbal in a music studio against a playground setting allows the viewer to contrast the impact and purpose the object serves, respectively. “Cymbalism” is equal parts serene and absurd.
