Chase : The New Aesthetic

In the reading The Great Wave, James Bridles ” attempt to “write” critically about the network in the vernacular of the network itself’, in a social-media environment with its language of reblogs, likes and comments.” really attracted my interest. Especially due to fact, that in the workplace I work with social media and some brands even tried to utilize it to attract a certain audience. It is interesting to see this online platform be used in so many different way.

I love the thought of using the languages of a social platform to critique it. On the Tumblr page itself displays an error in a weather broadcast. The images and postings in the blog shine a bright light on how technology and  social media can sometimes really look like. It began in 2011 as a series the recognizes difference, the gaps in our distant but overlapping realities. Tumblr is an interesting social network and Bridle is able to use it to get his point across in a visual and unique way. The thought of social media and the ways of communication is very interesting.

In a recent post, he used Facebook’s emotions feature to poke fun of what is going on in the image.  The thoughts of using like and shares is all relevantly new. Just the thought of  the “like” using a symbol explain how one feels. It doesn’t tell the whole the story. Think how popular emojis have gotten just to express one’s self.  I think this only happened due to the rise of social media and it comes as a new form of expression. There are over 300 of them inside ones phone. The art does not conform to the formal shapes like a manifesto, essay, book expected by critics and academics. Lots of people do not know what to make of it.
