Hi, my name is Nikol Cherniak and I’m a sophomore who is majoring in accounting. My favorite book is Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. Some of my interests include writing kindle books, reading (mostly self-help texts), and anything and everything to do with the fashion world. The section that confused me in Paul Jay’s Global Matters: The Transnational Turn in Literary
Studies is: “While the institutional infrastructures of economic globalization still tend to be defined by this center-periphery model, emerging forms of agency at the cultural level are beginning to loosen its hold. And what we have increasingly come to recognize about the locations we study is that they are not fixed, static, or unchanging. We create the locations we study, and this recognition ought to encourage us to continue to remap the geographies of literary and cultural forms.” What confused me about this section is how do we continually remap the geographies of literary and cultural forms when in the present day, there might be thousands of different cultural forms in an area that we aren’t aware of.

Hi Everyone. My name is Li Huang I grew up in Manhattan. My native language is Fujinese but I speak English most of the time. I’m a transfer student at Baruch this is my first semester here. I’m currently majoring in Accounting and minoring in Psychology. The book I enjoy reading was Speak which tells a story about the development of a girl who was shy and eventually became outgoing. I am enrolled in school as a full time student and work part time as a receptionist. On my days off I like to oversleep and make plans with my friends and family members. The quote I did not understand from Jay’s text was “Furthermore, in my view the debate over whether globalization is an economic or cultural phenomenon is based on a false distinction. We cannot neatly separate economic from cultural commodities, when commodities travel, culture travels, and when culture travels, commodities travel.” I thought this quote was very confusing I felt like the quote had my mind going in circles, where he was very repetitive. Yet I didn’t know where he was going with this quote.
Thank you for Reading and Good Luck to everyone!

Hi everyone,
Welcome to Eng2800, Ancient Literature in our Modern World, a hybrid course. This is the main page where you will be posting to the blog and reading your fellow students’ posts.
Take some time to check out the blog and read over your syllabus. Remember to complete your reading / assignment for the online portion of this week — details on the syllabus.
Be sure to change your name under “Edit my profile” so that it is your first and last name (rather than your initials/a series of numbers). Your name needs to be changed so that I can identify you and give you credit for all of your blog posts. Both the online reading and the reading for Tuesday are posted under “course readings” on our blog (which is password protected).
Be in touch if you have any questions, and welcome to our class!
