We have compiled a comprehensive and thorough analysis of the pay gap issue that exists in the workplace between women and men. We focus on how the achievements of women in the workplace so often seldom correlates to the amount of money they actually get paid as compared to their male counterparts in the same positions. The pay gap issue is often thought of from a one sided perspective by people who speculate that the issue is not about gender inequality but rather about the types of jobs that both genders tend to lean towards. Browne, Kingsley R in the article “Biological Sex Differences In The Workplace: Reports the “End Of Me”” believes that men and women are interested in different types of jobs and that most jobs that women are interested in are usually low income jobs. On this stance, he tells us that the pay gap issue is not about gender inequality but rather about the type of jobs women are inclined to do. While it is well acknowledged that the different types of jobs that interest men and women contributes significantly to pay gap, it is however necessary to take into account all the other causes of pay gap like the idea of gender inequality. For instance, why are women interested in these so called low paying jobs? What about situations where women and men do the same exact jobs, but women are still paid less? All these questions are inclusive in the pay gap issue and should not be looked at through a single lens.
Industrialization began in Britain during the late 1700s. This new era caused a lot of changes in society allowing women to work in industries. However, they were paid less than their male co-workers. It was believed that women were incapable of working tedious jobs as compared to men. They were not allowed to hold any high positions making them inferior to men. Fast forwarding a couple of decades later, the idea that men were stronger, powerful and the head of the family, meant women had to stay home and take care of the kids. Women who worked during this time were ridiculed and defamed while men who worked were revered as responsible.
Women in this time period had limited opportunities which made it easier to analyze the issue of pay gap during that time. However, as time went on things began to change. Today, women are granted equal opportunities by law. This doesn’t mean there is no way for inequality to exist, it means there is a way to bring an end to it. They believe that it is not an issue about unequal treatments between the two sexes is the problem that we have. In other to solve something, the problem has to be identified but many people like Browne Kinsley don’t believe its a problem. Based on the research conducted by my group, the issue of pay gap has to be looked at in a way that all potential causes are looked at not just parts of it.
Hillary Clinton was a candidate in the 2016 presidential election. As a woman, being able to reach this level of power is a great accomplishment. This was a historical moment because no woman in the United States has earned such power. She was seen as very qualified and experienced in leading the country as Michelle Obama presented in her speech “remarks about Hillary Clinton”. However, she still did not win against a man who was viewed as unqualified and inexperienced in government. There may be many other reasons that she did not win the election, but the problem here is if a woman can get all the way to the top and be in such position, how then are women inferior to men? She has proven that women are in fact capable of doing what men can do. This shows that there has been a major change in history and yet there are women in the workforce who work in high positions but still get payed less than men. America, being a land of freedom, liberty and justice, stands for equality for all, so why should there be inequality between genders in the workplace? This goes against what this country stands for which is why we believe it is important to understand the causes of this issue and how we can get rid of it.
We have gathered sources that provide information about the causes and effects of pay gap. We also have sources that argue that pay gap is not an issue of gender inequality. This site has gathered information to prove that when we look at history, statistics, and analysis made by researchers, the issue of pay gap can be viewed as a problem of gender inequality. Kiersz, Drake Baer and Andy provides two charts that show a few jobs that pay unequally based on gender. http://www.businessinsider.com/gender-wage-gap-per-profession-2015-3. Looking at these two graphs, it is interesting to see how gender affects pay in different types of jobs. The gathered research will further help us understand how this issue has grown overtime and the best ways to help solve it.

This analysis proves that women in society today have climbed up high on the societal ladder and are bringing about change. This analysis help readers to see the ad in a different way, to see what it was meant to do, how it was meant to attract the attention of its viewers and what the main theme was. By looking at this ad, the viewers can see the change of women’s roles in society. To compliment this ad, we also have provided our own original piece to comment on this concept of Hillary as a representation of accomplishment. It looks at this idea through a creative lens, having Hillary being represented as “Rosie the Riveter”, who is an icon of female capability. Even though we see this change, the issue of pay gap still stands making the two sexes unequal. This site will help us look at the problem of pay gap as what it really is and not make excuses by only seeing what we think it is.
The way we set up this site is to make it easy for users to navigate and find all information easily. We put our argument as a static page because we want readers to see what the whole site will be about and what our argument is. It will help them gain more understanding of the analysis and how pay gap is viewed in our society. The layout of this site takes readers from one page to the next in the other of the change of women’s role in society and how that role is viewed in society to historical and analytical information on how the pay gap has evolved over time and how we can provide a solution to the pay gap.
