One of the major issues that keep women down, in society, is the social pressures and the paranoia in self-perception that results from it. All the images in today’s photoshopped world create these, honestly, unrealistic images for women to live up to. This constant exposure to these ideals cause women to view themselves as less than they are. When you don’t view yourself as beautiful or attractive, it means you have no confidence. This lack of confidence spreads into other aspects of life. It can hinder a person from interacting with others, from speaking up, from chasing their hopes. Sometimes it can be so bad that it causes girls to become anorexic or bulimic. It can also instill a sense of learned helplessness into women, leading to introversion and a reduced drive. The main reason this becomes a problem is: when a person compares them-self to an ideal and falls short, they start thinking others can only see that failure and ugliness they now perceive in them-self.
What Dove did to help combat this is really amazing. I just wanted to share it, and thought it deserved its own page. Definitely take the time to watch this video if you haven’t already.

Of course men can also suffer from this, especially now that the marketing of male sexuality and beauty is on the rise. The same applies to us, the majority of the world do not see you as ugly, but a unique and beautiful person.
