Jennifer Lawrence is one of my favorite actors of the time. Not only is she an incredibly skilled actor, but she is a down to earth girl who doesn’t put on masks to try and fit social norms – she’s not afraid to be herself. The reason I am putting Jennifer under real Beauty is because of the constant message she is trying to get across to her female fans about the image obsessed society we live in. She has said in an interview once, “I’m a woman, that’s living in this world where everybody is telling everybody, how they should look and what they should be eating, and how people can lose this amount of weight this fast … and it just kinda overwhelms our senses. If I could make the tiniest difference in changing that, because it is so annoying, I would love that. She is an actor who understands and acknowledges the harmful influences of society’s unrealistic images of women.
She hates the idea of women and girls starving themselves in attempts to reach this image of “beauty”. In fact Jennifer was once forced to diet for a role and she tells us the story of what had happened:
“It was just the kind of shit that actresses have to go through. Somebody told me I was fat, that I was going to get fired if I didn’t lose a certain amount of weight. They brought in pictures of me where I was basically naked, and told me to use them as motivation for my diet. They thought that because of the way my career had gone, it wouldn’t still hurt me. ”
As a result of the scarring experience (she was just a young girl at the time), she hates the word diet and the fact society practically forces girls to do so. Her current opinion on diets is, “If anybody even tries to whisper the word ‘diet’, I’m like, ‘You can go fuck yourself.'”
This is why I think Jennifer Lawrence is a great actor. She understands that she is a role model and that millions of people are watching and following her. However, instead of trying to act cool and increase her followers by creating a facade, like many other stars do, she stays as herself. She doesn’t hold back and says exactly what she wants and means to say.
