English 2100 x 90: Fall 2020

Module 15

Welcome back! Hope you’re all holding up ok! We have two weeks left in this course; the end is in sight! This Module will take you through the remaining assignments for you to complete before being done.

I googled “cats working from home” and the results did not disappoint

Here’s what you need to do this week:

    1. Attend a workshop with your working group + me
    2. Give another round of diligent feedback (observation + warm + cool) to each person’s second draft in your working group folder. Please make sure to contribute in this way; your feedback is vital to your own Research Paper grade.
    3. Use the suggestions from your workshop to continue writing your paper. Final draft (7-8 double-spaced pages) is due Wednesday 12/9.
    4. Upload your “All-Star Blog Spotlight” post (explained below) by  this Wednesday 12/2 at noon.
    5. Post your “Course Design Project” (explained below) to the site by Sunday 12/6 11:59PM.

All-Star Blog Spotlight

Each week this semester, I’ve assigned you challenging reading about complicated subjects, and each week you’ve risen to that challenge by writing thoughtful, compassionate, and curious blog posts. I am humbled and amazed at what I read from you in these posts on a weekly basis, honestly. It makes me feel like we are all experiencing something together, instead of on our own computers, isolated.

For this assignment, re-read all the blog posts you’ve made over the semester on our site and pick your favorite one. Copy and paste its text, and re-post it in a new blog post, categorizing your repost to the “All-Star Blog Spotlight” tab.

In your repost, add a paragraph of context where you explain why this post in particular stands out to you. What did you do here that you like? How did this post relate to larger course themes around inclusivity of ALL voices in a given conversation? What does it say about the weight of silence, and what is left out? Anything else? Explain what is significant about your thinking, and free to be creative.

Please post this by Wednesday at noon. Comment on 2 posts by the next day, and celebrate each other’s hard work!

Course Design Project

If the topics and themes of your Research Paper were remixed into a college course, what would its students learn? Write a “course prospectus” (no more than one page) where you:

    • Give the course a name
    • Summarize the specific learning goals and methodologies (will it be a discussion-based course? Will there be papers? Other kinds of projects? How will the students be assessed?
    • List a few readings that will appear on the syllabus
    • Mention anything else that makes this course unique, why this course is valuable, and what students can hope to gain from it for their lives
    • Design the prospectus in a way that will appeal to interested students (pictures welcomed but not required)

You’ll share this project in 2 ways: one) in your Final Portfolio as a PDF or Google Doc, and two) as a blog post on the site (category “Course Design Project”) for your classmates to view.

Please Review: Ok, that was a lot! Now, I’ve compiled much of the info we’ve gone over as it pertains to the Research Paper here. Read it and review as you work this week.
