Expressive Words

During the process of doing this project, I tried three main approaches to design the words. Since we can only use the typeface Helvetica, which is very neat and simple, I focus on using spacing, angling and the meaning of the words when designed. For example, the word “silly”, I placed the word in the center with a solid black color and repeated some parts of the words and made them different level of grey and angled them in various to create a silly and messy background. I tried to make a contrast by using the color in order to make the word “silly” in the middle stand out more. However, on piece of advice I got when we discussed our works, it actually would look more create if I took out the word in the middle. I think this approach is more creative and  illustrate the meaning of the word “silly” more. Two things I learned from this project are how a little twit on the word can make a simple typeface more interesting and meaningful and how to experiment different designs through different techniques such as spacing and angling.
