Narrative of Multiple Intelligences

Summary

Asimov tells us that these intelligent tests are all based on whoever makes the questions for these tests. The intelligence on the aptitude tests only show that he is good at answering the questions on the test, but it doesn’t mean that he is more intelligent than others. He compares himself with an auto-repair man and claims that he would be a moron if he worked with his hands. I define intelligence as being good at the one aspect you are focusing on. For example, if you have intelligence for social interaction, which might mean you know what to say, when to say it, and how to express it. This is completely separate from intelligence for studies or sports. Often times, you would have multiple intelligences because you are good at more than one aspect. I think the aptitude tests don’t define your intelligence in every aspect, but only the limited intelligence of their test. This makes my view is very similar to Asimov’s. For me, my strength is in sports. Since young I had no problem with hand-eye coordination. It came naturally about catch a ball, throwing it, or hitting it. My interests is in basketball, badminton, ping pong and guitar. These are my favorite sports and the ones I am also good at. I just started to learn how to play guitar by myself this summer. I followed some videos online and now I can play the simples notes and chords. My talent is piano. I started learning when I was 11, which is quite late already. My piano teacher sped up my learning schedule and I caught up pretty fast. I wouldn’t claim it as a strength because I always needs continuous practicing. Based on my definition of intelligence, I think I have kinesthetic intelligence and some musical intelligence.
My three top intelligence types was logical/mathematical with a score of 62, musical with a score of 59, and bodily/kinesthetic with a score to 56. Logical/mathematical, meaning I am good abstract relationships and numbers; musical, good with sounds; and bodily/kinesthetic, good with using your body to do something. Based on my guess of which intelligences I have in the previous paragraph, I think the test was pretty accurate. Previously I said that I have a strength for hand eye coordination, which makes me good at most sports. This is portrayed in the result of the test with kinesthetic intelligence. I also said that I have interests in guitar and have a talent in piano, which is also shown in musical intelligence as well. The only intelligence that I didn’t write in either of my strengths, interests, and talents was logical/mathematical. I did choose a major in accounting, though, which could be why this was my highest intelligence.

  1. I admire your aspirations for music and math because I find that very interesting. It works out for you because your talents intertwine with aspects of your major!
