7-Day Code Switching Log

Day 1- When I talk to new friends I am more reserved because I just met them. During my gap when I met up with an older friend of mine, I spoke more comfortable with him because I am better friends with him.

Day 2- When I was playing video games I go through many emotions which leads to different speaking tones. When I am winning and doing good, I am more calm, and in a good mood so I talk in a nicer tone. However, when I was losing I am frustrated so I am in a bad mood, then talk very passive because I don’t want to interact with anyone.

Day 3- I saw my niece and nephew over the weekend and I code switch when I talk to them. When I talk to their parents, I speak in a normal tone. When I talk to them, I talk in a softer tone because they are 3 and 7 years old.

Day 4- I code switched when I had to do work in groups. I code switched to be able to express my thoughts while also listening to my group mates. I talked so they could be able to add more points to the conversation.

Day 5- When I talked to my teacher I talked in a more respectful and mannered tone. This is opposed to me speaking with my classmates where I talked more relaxed and normal.

Day 6- A lot of people code switch when texting different people, including me. When I text my friends I sometimes use slang words or abbreviations that I would use when talking to a family member.

Day 7- I had to explain things someone, and when I was explaining I code switched. At first, I changed my tone to explain it, then after they still weren’t understanding, I had to switch my tone to explain it more in depth.

  1. I relate to you on day 2, where whenever I’m having fun I’m in a good mood and when I’m not I also try not to talk to people, so they don’t think I’m upset with them.
