Masters at the Met, 2002 (Red Grooms)

The painting “Masters at the Met 2002 is painting created by the artist Red Grooms. you see many people looking at different paintings and they are all looking at the painting and making their own interpretation on it and what it may be about, hence given the fact that this my interpretation on this painting. the story behind this painting and why Grooms created it is because the he felt that the idea of New Yorkers and the all that brings to light of the Met museum should painted as colorful as possible and he has drawn other painting s that are made by other painters such as Paul Gauguin, George’s Seurat and others. his message behind the painting is “by taking art to seriously, we risk missing out on the abundance of aesthetic pleasures all around us in everyday life.”

I chose this painting because the felt that it gave me a sense of having something in common with the painting. In the painting you see people who have gone to met museum to look at paintings and just enjoy other artist work of art. kind of like how I am enjoying the view of this work of art. I’ve been to Met Museum multiple times and I do appreciate the art that is shown in the museum. the pleasure to make an interpretation based off something so simple is both fun but also sometimes difficult. It shows that not every single art piece you come across has to have some kind of deep meaning behind it. This I feel adds onto what the artist it trying to tell the people about just enjoying art and not making it something difficult to understand because you miss out on the pleasure of the art that is all around us.

  1. I agree, this painting allows for the audience to relate to it. When people go to museums to look at art, this is what it’s like. All kinds of people interpreting and appreciating the art around them.

  2. This paint feels relatable anyone who has visited a museum on their on time or on a school trip in middle school. It felt real when I saw the women on the left which looked like she was explaining the painting as a tour guide to people.
