I chose the piece which is called “Red Bentley,” this piece is interesting because of the glowing windows on the ship. The main components of this work include the ship, the water, and the sky. Repetitions of similarity occur on the ship windows which were glowing and the sky and water. Binary oppositions that are present were the color of the ship and the sky. In this piece ideas being implied or suggested are the fact It’s late night and the ship is headed east. I am left with the question of why was there a car and what makes the car important. As far as the historical context it is unknown but it makes me much more curious about where and what was going on within this painting.

I would categorize this painting as a gloomy and mysterious picture. It reminds me of the story Noah’s Ark which is one of the reasons I was drawn toward this piece. I think the intended audience is people who are interested in mystery. The Red Bentley is slightly shown leaving the audience able to draw a conclusion of what is going on. The purpose of this piece is to provide a sense of mystery and the artist was definitely trying to present a scene of importance.

The red Bentley is important to this image and I believe the ship includes people inside leaving their family which is in the red Bentley. The elements are organized with the ship being the largest piece and the sky and water matching each other with the red Bentley in the distance. The red Bentley was slightly cropped out meaning it left the view of the ship. The image can be read with pathos because I think the water and sky are the most important parts with cool colors evoking a sad emotion. Extending the idea of the image evoking sadness it makes me feel sad because I feel like I’m traveling to a place and having a long journey away from my family. There are no identity markers I can see present because there are no people shown. My final thoughts are that I wish I was able to find the image online so I can get the context.
