In “What is Intelligence, Anyway?” Asimov explains that throughout his whole life he would consider himself smart because of the scores he would receive on various tests and because of these scores he thought that other people such as his mechanic, could not be as smart as him. He realizes however that compared to his mechanic or any other person who had knowledge in a field he was not experienced with, then he would be the less intelligent. This explains that intelligence cannot just be applied to one category but instead is spread out vastly. I think that intelligence can be based on common sense and emotional intelligence but also to an extent because people may not have the same knowledge on certain subjects, such as what Asimov explains. I also think that intelligence can be based on our skills such as critical thinking, problem solving etc. and that it could be applied to anything, whether it be reading a text or building a desk. For me I would say some of my strengths are time management, staying organized and some of my interests are reading, trying new food, listening to music.
My top intelligence results were Bodily/Kinesthetic being first, Verbal/Linguistic being second and Visual/Spatial being third. I feel that these results were pretty accurate. I think that Verbal/Linguistic would have been number one for me because I do relate to making sense of the world through language. I think that communication and expression is how the world moves and gets ideas across. I don’t disagree with the other results though since I usually do need to have some type of hands on activity in order to grasp a concept or get used to it. Just watching somebody else do it or repeat it isn’t enough for me to do it myself. I think that this aligns with the Visual/Spatial because having a visual picture of something allows me to memorize and look back on it. My intelligence types align with my strengths and talents because it all falls into the category of being able to do something first hand and experiencing it.
I agree with your top 3 choices and I like the way you explained how each one relates to how to learn or how they are incorporated into your daily life. I also got the choice of Visual/Spatial and I do agree with this one a lot because I also do sometimes need some hands-on learning in order to really grasp a concept that is being taught to me.
I agree with how you stated that “intelligence cannot just be applied to one category but instead is spread out vastly.” I feel like everyone’s specialties, which affects that “kind” of intelligent they are. I also agree with the hands on activity. Actually watching someone do something and trying myself, even if it’s wrong, is the best way to learn and gain experience in my opinion.
I agree with your statement on how intelligence is spread out vastly. It’s something that extends beyond just excelling in a particular subject or domain. I also feel like it’s important to recognize that intelligence can be manifest in countless ways– thus, it can be applied to everything.
I’m also the type of person that needs to do hands on work to understand the concept better, and get engaged with the subject. This makes me remember what I learned and think critically.
