The film I chose to watch was, “The Black Panther still in prison after 46 years,” and in this film it tells the story of a 19 year old who was convicted of murdering 2 police officers in Harlem. The 19 year old’s name is Jalil Muntaqim but also referenced as “Anthony Bottom.” What I found interesting in this video was that in the beginning, they mentioned how two police officers were murdered but throughout the whole film, only the life of the white police officer was mentioned whereas the life of the black police officer wasn’t much spoken about, showing a very one-sided story. Jalil Muntaqim being sentenced to 25 years to life just amazes me because it really shows how much power police officers really held back then because a citizen can get 46 years to prison for killing a cop but when a cop goes ahead and kills an innocent person, they’re able to roam freely with no precautions. This just goes to show that the lives of police officers were “more valued” than the lives of those whom they’re sworn to “protect” and this just isn’t true, wrong in so many ways.

It’s unfortunate to see how the other police officer was simply dismissed, I agree with how wrong it is for police lives to be more “significant” compared to others.
I agree with you that it is incredibly hypocritical to regard someone’s life as more precious than another due to their social standing. The fact that situations like those you mentioned continue to occur today serves to highlight how flawed both the legal system and society are.
I picked the same film as you. I agree with what you said about how cops are being treated more differently and less punished. It’s absurd to see how a person got prisoned for 46 years while there are other crimes that were way worse but not as strict as this case.
I agree with your statement about cops’ lives being more “valued” and the citizens having to serve jail time for an action they did but if a cop did it they would have no consequences. we live in a very unfair world.
