Day 1:
The Wikipedia Adventure was a guide to how to edit other people’s articles, how to accept other people’s edit suggestions, and navigate the Talk page. The most frustrating part of the Wikipedia Adventure is that when I clicked on the button, it did nothing and I was confused about what to do. This slowed my process of completing the adventure. Overall, the concept of the adventure is helpful.
Day 2:
The first article that I read was about “Comparison of Birth Control Methods”. The talk page is very cordial. There haven’t been any misogynistic or sexist comments made. Most of the conversations are about fact checking and clarifying the wording of the information. One thing that stood out to me was there were some conversations about the possibility of the deletion of the article. A couple of users were concerned about the article being deleted. They were adamant that this article is informative and useful.
Day 3:
The next article I read was about Thomas Jefferson. There isn’t much on the Talk page. The main concern is that the article is long and needs to be reduced down. No concerns of taking down the article. Overall, the Thomas Jefferson Talk page is more civilized than the Talk page of the” Comparison of Birth Control Methods”.
Day 4:
Today, I looked up Martha Jefferson’s Wikipedia page to compare with Thomas Jefferson’s page. The Talk Page was more active than the previous two articles that I have looked at. The Talk page mostly argued about what name or nickname should be used for Martha Jefferson. The most eye-catching part of the Talk page was the restored article. It seems that the article was deleted before, but was later restored. There are conversations between supporting and opposing the restoration. Some people support the restoration because being First Lady and being Jefferson’s wife makes her worthy in American history. Others disagreed saying that Jefferson’s wife is not notable and that her family name is the only thing that makes her special. They also believe that her information can be summed up in the Thomas Jefferson article. This Talk page is more hostile and argumentative compared to the Thomas Jefferson article.
Day 5:
When looking through the Red List, there are a lot of women from different countries and jobs that are not recognized by Wikipedia as important. A lot of these women I also do not know from learning about history. In the end, I chose a woman named Christine Nangle. She is a producer and writer. She has worked on some shows. The most well-known one is The Simpson. Her role in society seems to be more contemporary compared to other women on the Red List.
Day 6:
Initially, I began my research by typing her name into google. The first website that came up was IMDb. This website helped with what movies or TV shows she helped co-produced and write for. This helped me get a sense of her career and I also learned that she also did some acting besides writing and producing. These initial steps of research helped me organize the Wikipedia page.
Day 7:
With additional research, I learned that Christine Nangle is most well known for her role in The Simpsons. There is a website that talks about each episode she helped co-produce and write. Interestingly, Christine Nangle actually has a Wikipedia page on the French side of Wikipedia, but not in America. By looking at the website, it is very empty and doesn’t give much information about her personal life. It only gives some information on her career and work. The IMDb website was the most detailed in Christine Nangle’s career and work.
I had the same problem with Wikipedia as well. It kept getting stuck on the same screen so I had to complete it the next day.
I also had the same problem with Wikipedia. Some of the buttons just don’t work. I found it interesting that you’re comparing Thomas Jefferson and Martha Jefferson.
I found it interesting how the first wiki page about a topic rather than a person. I have notice that many people (myself included) chose to look at wiki pages about people rather than debate topics. I had similar problems with the wiki adventure game too.
