Building Blocks
I love learning new softwares, because the possibilities of innovation are endless. This is what I found in Sketchup. While this program has similar features to Adobe softwares, the 3D aspect of it brings everything to life. This was my mindset going into this specific project. As simple as a block is, if you think about it from an innovator’s perspective it can be the source of creating any structure, metaphorically or physically. So, that made the shared elements portion of this project fun. The limits of what I could create with my wedge and the other blocks were boundless.
The structure I came up with depicts some kind of hierarchal structure. I built it with the ideas of it standing tall and being placed at a high point to be a visual point for people to look up to. It’s function, can be a light or some kind of landmark, kind of like the function of a lighthouse. I had trouble rotating the blocks and placing them on top of each other, but I’m happy with the results because I know the struggle it took to even get the product. As the initial Sketchup project it served it’s purpose of being a learning tool. Some advice I would give someone setting out on the project would be to have a lot of patience. Working with X & Y axes are one thing, but when you throw the Z axis in there, things are not always as they seem from just a frontal viewpoint.
