Future Vision
As a foodie, I am extremely curious about the future of 3d printed foods. What will happen to all of the agricultural workers who produce a lot of our fresh foods? Can they assimilate their jobs to fit the needs to 3d printed food, or will their positions become obsolete? 3D Printing in the food industry is something that really sparks my interest. I have a few reasons why food is the subject I decided to pursue. One reason is because I would like to know how we could 3d print foods such as different types of meat if it needs an animal as a source to be produced. Another thing that sparks my interest is finding out how they would alter food to cater to one’s dietary needs. This speaks to me on a personal level because I had really high cholesterol for an eleven year old and at a young age, I had to alter my habits drastically. The following articles I posted are all examples of food and printers that are created by 3D printers. The method that they’re using is like FDM, but using substances like sugar instead of plastic. The video below shows that the Sugar Lab has created candy that have the same substance as fondant as well as candy that mimics rock candy. I can’t wait until there are actual meals created using 3D printing because it would mark the beginning of an innovative era.
